Pay tv StarTimes has introduced five new 24 hour sports channels to step up war on premium content provision that enjoys massive following in Kenya.
It has unveiled to its viewers Sports Focus (CH:250), Sports Life (Ch:253), Sports Arena (Ch:251), Sports Premium (HD – Ch:252) and World Football (HD – Ch:254).
Two of the channels are offered in High Definition (HD).
The Chinese digital tv provider has also taken battle for exclusive sports programming to the door steps of Dstv that enjoys exclusivity in English premium league, having acquired exclusive rights to air live German’s Bundesliga matches for the next five and three seasons respectively.
StarTimes Vice President, Mark Lisboa noted that the company has made major content acquisitions including the 2015 FIVB women’s and men’s World Cup that will enable Kenyans cheer their women’s volleyball team while equally enjoying top European leagues.
“The introduction of the five additional sports channels stamps our commitment towards unrivalled live sports coverage and with our continued acquisition of premium competitions globally, we commit to bring our subscribers the best in sporting entertainment and this is another step closer towards achieving this milestone,” said Lisboa.
StarTimes has acquired exclusive broadcast rights for The German Bundesliga for the next five seasons (2015-2020) while Serie A will run for the next three seasons (2015-2018) with subscribers expected to enjoy the high adrenaline soccer action from the 18 and 20 teams respectively in each of the two top leagues.

The first Bundesliga match for the 2015-2016 season kicked off Monday night with the reigning champions Bayern Munich’s title defense at home against Hamburg SV.
The 2015/2016 Serie A season kicks off on Saturday 22nd August when AS Roma will face Hellas Verona.
