The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has allowed Equity Bank to roll out telecommunication services using a new SIM card technology for one year-in a trial period.
The move now tones down a vicious fight between the bank and market leader, Safaricom that had ensued over claims the technology exposed subscribers to cyber security and fraud.
CA director-general, Francis Wangusi, who appeared before the House committee on Energy, Information and communication said the new player has been granted the opportunity in line with accepted international standards-but a concrete decision will be made later.
“If we discover any vulnerability over the period, they will stop,” Wangusi told Journalists in Nairobi on Tuesday.
