ICT Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi is facing contempt of court charges for re-appointing six members to the ICT Authority board, against a ruling made last week.
The high court nullified appointment of Timothy Waema, Esther Kibere, Joseph Dena, Elijah Omwenga, David Mugo and Ugas Sheikh Mohamed as directors of the Authority’s board on grounds of irregularity.
However it has emerged the CS published the names a day after the court made its rulings to favour complaints by ICT Association of Kenya (ICTAK) secretary General, Kamotho Njenga.
The lobby in its petition claimed appointments did not factor in aspects of public participation and transparency, what the CS has vehemently dismissed as non-existent.
“We will immediately appeal High Court decision of ICTA Board. The ICTA statute does not require public participation,” said Matiang’i on his twitter handle.
Kenya Gazette today read, Timothy Waema, Bertha Dena, Elijah Omwenga and Ugah Sheikh have been appointed for three years with effect from January 17, while Esther Kibere and David Mugo are to start their duties from September.
