Kenya will lead Africa’s high-profile Cyber security experts in exploring new-age threats and strategies of mitigating run-away cyber crimes in the continent.
The country’s Ministry of ICT has been slotted to make the opening remarks at the World Cyber Security Summit scheduled to take place this Friday 28th August 2020.
Principal ICT Officer/Head, Policy and Research Unit, Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, Richard M Kiarie is expected to showcase ‘Kenyan Government’s approach on securing national cyberspace’ with a focus on National Cyber security Strategy to protect the Kenyan Digital Society and Digital Economy in an event that will be hosted virtually.
The Communications Authority’s first quarter report for 2018/19 shows that the National Cyber security Centre detected 3.82 million cyber threats, a rise from 3.46 million reported from the last quarter.
Within the review period, the banking sector remained the most targeted industry followed by government institutions.
“There is the growing risk of economic stagnation due to Africa’s digital divide and increased cyber crimes,” said Mohammed Saleem, Founder and CEO of Trescon.

The meeting will also delve deeper into issues of Data Privacy and Regulation,Digital Identity and Access, zero trust security framework, BlockChain for Security, IOT devices for security, Cloud Security, Cyber Security training and capacity building and disaster prevention and recovery planning.
This year’s event will host industry experts from the Africa region who will meet, network, learn and engage with some of the world’s renowned technology thought-leaders, subject matter experts and technology innovators in a constructive, open-dialogue environment to find solutions for issues hindering their information/cyber security.
