Chinese Firm, Huawei Technologies, has presented 50 laptops to First Lady Margaret Kenyatta towards the support of healthcare delivery through the Medical Safaris.

Receiving the donations in an event that marked her first official engagement this year, the First Lady said the Beyond Zero healthcare initiatives, including the recently launched medical safaris, have had a huge impact on health delivery to vulnerable populations especially in hard to reach parts of the country.

“The impact on the ground is truly amazing. You can feel it and you can see it,” said First Lady Margaret Kenyatta as she thanked the 20 organizations for their support.

The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta received the first of 50 Huawei Matebook X Pro Laptops from Stone He, CEO of Huawei Kenya.

Beyond Zero Medical Safaris are three-day events that provide an array of services such as screening of the heart for children, eye care for the elderly, antenatal screening for pregnant women, repair of obstetric fistulae for women, enrollment into NHIF and assessment and registration of children with disability.

They take place across the country in partnership with local County governments and many generous healthcare providers who provide services for free to the disadvantaged.

With support from Huawei, Beyond Zero will be able to use the laptops to register patients, process them at the relevant health provider’s service desk, prescribe medication, treatment or follow-up actions, and get accurate reports and data.

The laptops are extremely high-quality with a tough body, scratch-free and high brightness screen as well as long 12-hour battery life so they are particularly suitable for use in outdoor environments.

With a touchscreen along with the keyboard, they will enable the rapid use of medical records software that will not only speed up the delivery of services at the Medical Safari so they can benefit more patients, but also improve the quality of care enabling coordination amongst the many service providers.

Beyond Zero and Huawei strongly believe in the power of technology to contribute to Universal Health Coverage and are delighted to be partnering together.
