As the Africa Green Revolution Forum gets underway in Nairobi with Heads of State expected to renew political commitments towards empowering food production in Africa, it is evident that technology and innovation is driving Africa’s agricultural transformation.
Experts say innovative technologies such as solar tent dryers and airtight storage bags are helping to reduce postharvest losses by up to 50 per cent. “The development of new innovation is an important part of research to improve agricultural and nutritional security in Africa.
However, building on existing solutions to increase their adoption and potential impact on small-scale farmers is another strategy to bring rapid benefits to smallscale farmers,” says Dr Dominique Charron, Director of Agriculture and Environment Programme at the Canadian International Aid Agency.
