The newly launched parental control software from the Mobile network provider, Orange, will mark the end to internet abuse by children. Says Telkom’s Kenya CEO.
Speaking during the launch of an upgrade of the high speed data dongle, The CEO, Mickael Ghossien said the new software comes free of charge with every purchase of the new 3G modem and will greatly aide in controlling children from accessing explicit sites.
“The new upgrade comes alongside other affordable products ,parental control software downloadable free of charge, that will restrict children from visiting dating and other restricted sites without necessarily limiting the access to important sites of research,” said Ghossien.
“Children can now access, research sites, do their homework with the fastest 3G network in Kenya,” he added.
Other features includes, data calculator that facilitates the user to measure bundles used and the ones the user needs and coverage checker among others at subsidized rates.
According to Ghossien, “Orange has unveiled a range of high speed internet devices across all segments with new data tariffs that will see users browse the net for as low as 40 cents per megabyte. These rates will apply to all Orange internet platforms.”
The 4 billion shillings investment has upgraded the currently used 3G modem to 3G plus edge modem with a high speed of a 21MegaByte per second 3G modem with an aim of competing favorably in offering high speed network services.
The new technology, has also unveiled a range of HD voices that will enable consumers experience clarity in voice calls. Expressing his pride, the CEO said it is the first of its kind in Kenya.
“I am very proud of the HD voice technology, now there is no need to shout as the voice will now be on stereo for clarity,” said Ghossien.
Ghossien, said the data which is the most versatile 3G network in Kenya and the second in Africa will make it possible for mobile and computer users to derive maximum data value as the network provider flexes to lead in offering of innovative products and services.
“In line with our strategy, I can confirm that a new era begins today, Orange will steadily take the lead in offering innovative products and services with simplicity as we maintain value proposition to our customers,” said Ghossien.
With new user interface the 3G+ has a shared broad band WiFi router- business Broadband that allows six to 10 users connect to the internet at the same time. This is facilitated with a plug and play device.
Users will only need to visit the website portal to recharge their account and send unlimited number of emails without the need for attachments through plug in plug out system.
Noting that Orange has the highest number of wireless broadband users, Ghossien said that with the new 21 MB internet everywhere modem, Orange has positioned itself as a premium and reliable data service provider that will be at the fore front of providing e solutions. He however termed transmition costs in the country as a major problem to its quest to reach the whole country.
“The main challenge is Transmition costs which are high in Kenya, this has resulted due to cable vandalism that have rocked the country,” he said.
Orange subscribers in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa will be the first ones to experience the new upgrade following the simultaneous official launch in the three cities. As the company seeks to expand to other regions.
According to CCK, the number of data users in Kenya rose to 4.7 million from 3.2 million in the last quarter, translating to 46.3 leap. However Orange is optimistic that through the launch the number will spike further.
