Kenyan government has launched Sh 26 billion project to develop a multipurpose dam expected to generate 60 MW of power and provide sufficient water to irrigate over 2500 hectares of land.
The Arror project in Elgeyo Marakwet county, is expected to take between 4-5 years to complete.
The project is one of eighteen (18) flagship projects approved by cabinet for implementation under Vision 2030 projects with the aim of accelerating development in Kerio Valley and the country at large.
The Project is projected to become a catalyst in land rehabilitation and reclamation in Kerio escarpment where land degradation and landslides are serious concerns as it will release pressure on land use on the escarpment.
It is also expected enhance security between communities living In kerio valley as communities engage in irrigation and other alternative livelihoods replacing pastoralism associated with the risk of cattle rustling.
