Kenyan Publishers have warned parents of increase in hard textbook prices as schools re-opens this week pushing parents to dig deeper into their pockets.
Kenya Publishers Association(KPA) chairman, David Waweru said cost of books will increase by between 4 to 10 percent on 16 percent Value added tax (VAT) imposed in 2013 and 1.6 percent railway levy introduced in the last financial year.
Late disbursement funds for the Free Primary Education and for the Subsidized Secondary Education could delay procurement by public schools to compound woes of publishers.
