StarTimes Media has taken its digital television services to Machakos County and its environs following the successful activation of its signal transmitter located at Mua Hills on Tuesday.
Machakos County residents across Kasaini, Kasinga, Tumba, Mumbuni, Kyanguli, Machakos Town, Katelemba and other surrounding areas will now access the digital television service.
The company whose current offering includes both pay television and free to air digital television services seeks to grow the subscriber base through extending access at the county level.
StarTimes Vice President Mark Lisboa noted that the overwhelming reception for digital television service seen before and after the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting confirms that Kenya’s appetite for rich television content at affordable rates continues to grow as StarTimes remains in the forefront in providing access beyond urban centers.
“Kenyans residing in urban areas were the first beneficiaries of the switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting however, we have now kicked off efforts to extend this service beyond urban centres key in not only growing our market share but also giving residents an enviable choice that will enrich their television viewing experience”, noted Lisboa.
Machakos Central Ward Member of county assembly Cornelius Musyoka noted the increased investor confidence in the region will further add value to the community which will include employment creation through product distributors thereby offering additional services to the population and in the process reach a maximum number of households.
“We welcome StarTimes to this region which we believe will translate to increased development as the entry is bound to create employment opportunities while growing access to information as some households are yet to acquire set top boxes but can now enjoy both informative and entertaining content with the entry.” Noted Musyoka.
StarTimes pay television set top box will be retailing at just Ksh 949 inclusive of 5 months Nyota bouquet subscription while the free to air set top box will retail at a one off fee of Sh 3,299.
The company’s entertainment offering includes movies, documentaries, kids content, sports (including major European soccer leagues – Bundesliga, Seri A and French Ligue 1), music, news, series as well as local and African content
