M-Kopa Solar has changed its business model to connect more off-grid homes with mobile phone–enabled home solar panel systems as it targets to reach 1.5 million users of its product by 2017.
The company has created a a new business team to study consumer purchasing trends, craft a new distribution plan to support 50 new retail centers it has opened to supplement 35 Safaricom agencies it has been relying on to sell its products.
Some of the 26 employees will also operate tele-sales function.
It has also introduced home improvement and technology products like energy saving jiko’s, solar powered television sets, water tanks that would also be accessed on loan to drive up sales.
“We want to make customers like our products in our new strategy,” said Moore.
The company allows customers to make daily payment installment of Sh 50 for the solar home system and added products.
The company has strongly resisted efforts by an import-export firm to take over exclusive rights to its trade name.
